Bug Bite Mayhem

If you are like me, and most of the world, you hate mosquito bites. I can't stand them and I do my best to keep those pesky bugs at bay, but no matter what you do, you end up with a bite or two. We live next to a creek, so of course, there is an endless supply to the flying blood suckers. I used to just deal with them, but my poor lil guy reacts SO big to the bug bites.

Check out the above picture, a mosquito must have gotten into the house. He went from having only few on him from a few days prior, to all these that you see here on his leg out of nowhere. It breaks my mommy heart only because he swells up so much from them and after a few days, they start to ooze. My bites itch and eventually just go away, but his stay for days, sometimes weeks and then scab over. What is a momma to do?

When I was a teenager working at church camp one summer, the girls played a prank on the boys and painted their nails while they were sleeping. It's a safe harmless prank that is so fun and the 10 year old boys are DESPERATE to get the pink off their nails! They use whatever they can find to try and take off the nail color. They discovered that their OFF bug spray did just that, it removed the nail polish and the prank was short lived. I remember being so grossed out and concerned because we were using the same chemicals all over our bodies to keep the mosquitos away. Why in the world were we doing that to skin and what was it doing to our skin? I never bought chemical based bug spray again.

Now, I absolutely go for doTERRA's Terrashield oil blend for whenever we go outside. It is so easy to mix up, I simply add 10 drops of Terrashield in a 30 ml spray bottle, a teaspoon of Organic 100% Aloe Vera Gel, and fill the rest with water. Shake, then spray all over him. So easy, only costs .04 cents per drop of oil and GAHH so much healthier and easy to throw in my bag. Best thing, NO CHEMICALS! Praise God. I adjust the recipe accordingly if I want to make a bigger bottle of Terrashield.

For Grayson's existing bug bits, I'm doing a blend of Lavender, Frankincense and Melaleuca every few hours to help fight against the swelling, itching and irritation. Thank the Lord that Band-Aids keep him from being able to scratch.
